Well-bunkered greens, the wind blowing in off the ocean, and undulating fairways make for a diverse and challenging, but ultimately playable, “Scottish links” style course.

History of the Course

The Scottish “links” style course was built in 1897 as one of the first golf courses in America. The course was originally designed by George Wright, known as the father of New England golf and renowned golf pro, Alex Findlay.

Legend has it that brewer Frank Jones, owner of the Wentworth Hotel, was hearing from the Hotel’s well-healed, summer-long guests, that in the future, they would only summer at a place that had a golf course. Mr. Jones promptly leased 30 acres of waterfront property from Frank Odiorne, and the rest is history!

Golf was becoming so popular and available that around 1911, the new owner of the Hotel, Harry Beckwith, commissioned the legendary architect Donald Ross, to rebuild the Wentworth Links. In 1964, the course was expanded to 18 holes by notable architect Geoffrey Cornish. To this day, the course remains the only genuine links style course in New Hampshire and is one of the most beautiful golf settings in the country.

Golf Course & Practice Facilities

Diverse and challenging, but ultimately playable, “Scottish links” style course.
Six par 3’s, eight par 4’s, and four par 5’s lend to the character of the course.
Driving range with target greens, grass & artificial tee area located by the first tee.
Chipping and putting green located by the first tee.
Putting green located by the main clubhouse with ocean views.
3 hole Seaside Course with big cups located near holes 15 & 16 with views of the ocean.

Dress code

Members and guests are required to wear appropriate golf attire when playing and practicing but not wear the following:

No Cargo style shorts or pants
No sweatpants/track pants
No basketball/gym shorts
No jeans or denim
No halter/camisole style tops
Sleeveless shirts must have a collar

The dress code is for adults and children and applies to the golf course and practice areas.

Pace of Play

We ask all players to follow the pace of play guidelines on the scorecard for the enjoyment of everyone.

Restrooms

Restrooms are located in the Main Clubhouse, 19^th Hole, and on the course near the 10th tee.
